Chiricahua Land Conservancy
ABOUT US
The Chiricahua Land Conservancy is a nonprofit organization founded in 2021 in Portal, AZ, to foster long-term citizen-based stewardship of the natural ecosystems and scenic landscapes of the Chiricahua and Peloncillo Mountains and the San Simon Valley that connects them. We work collaboratively with willing landowners and other partners to preserve scenic beauty, protect habitat for wildlife, and encourage sustainable and traditional land use.
The map on the right is centered on the general area that we work in.
What We Do
The mission of the Chiricahua Land Conservancy (CLC) is to conserve healthy, diverse ecosystems within the upper San Simon Valley and surrounding mountains for the benefit of current and future generations. We seek to protect riparian and other sensitive habitats, promote habitat connectivity, preserve scenic landscapes, and encourage sustainable land use.
How We Do It
The CLC supports landowners seeking creative strategies to preserve their lands long-term. Because private landowners play an important role in conservation at the landscape level, CLC offers its expertise and resources for those who wish to leave a legacy that perpetuates the historical and natural values we cherish. We acquire land and/or conservation easements from willing partners to preserve their biological and historical values in perpetuity.
Who We Are
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization directed by landowners in the Chiricahua-Peloncillo region. Our board members represent many different areas of expertise and walks of life—educators, scientists, business owners, ranchers, and land management professionals—all dedicated to sustaining healthy landscapes and thriving communities.
