Person Of The Month - Izzy Escobar
A celebration of the residents of Portal and Rodeo, whose contributions make our community so special!
As a part of the Arizona Memory Project, our community has been collecting (since 2017) oral histories in both audio and video format. The videos and the editing are conducted by Bob Downs and Karen Fasimpaur.
Topics covered include how people came to this area, how they lived here, activities of local community groups and events, local organizations and residents, what makes the area special, and more.
This initial work on this project was supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Since the completion of the grant period, the project has been continued by volunteers. All the videos are available in the Portal Library.
On this Page, we will feature ONE of our residents (approximately) each moth. The Person Of The Month is entitled to covered parking at the Rodeo Community Center and the Portal Rescue Parking lot (that is, if they ever construct a covered parking spot).
What better way to kick-off this new web Page than an interview with Izzy Escobar, of Rodeo. Izzy in many ways is the “patron saint”
of our community.
